It’s a Poly-Glamorous Life!

I’ve been chomping at the bit for the final season of HBO’s Big Love to start and I was not disappointed last Sunday night. After fast forwarding through the Golden Globe Awards – thank you DVR for saving me through a lot of bloat –  I sat down to resume my fascination with the dramas played out by modern polygamist Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) and his three wives Barb, Nicki and Margene (Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloë Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin respectively).  I’m feeling sad that this series is going to end, as I’ve grown fond of this ‘family.’ And I wonder why I have connected to them so strongly?   Is it because I once explored a poly-amorous relationship and related to the challenges, occasional rewards of juggling multiple partners in a triad? Or maybe because half of my family is Mormon and I understood the universe the characters of Big Love mingled in and out of? Continue reading
