I hope one day we’ll get off the subject of Lady Gaga but as populist as she is Lady Gaga is certainly contributing to the cultural resistance against American religious fundamentalists.
While Christian fundamentalists picketed outside Lady Gaga’s concert venue, Lady Gaga passed by in her limousine and rolled down her window. “Hi, I’m Lady Gaga.”
As someone handed her a “Get Out of Hell Free Card,” a picketer said, “That’s gonna happen one day, Darling.”
“You know, we really believe in God at my show,” replied Lady Gaga.
“Your pervert ways don’t equate to what God is all about…” said the picketer.
“My pervert ways?” Continue reading

Ahoy, ahoy… here it is folks, the final layout for my posts on nautical gear! The whole point of this trend is comfort and ease… believe it or not, sometimes being too fashionable isn’t necessarily stylish. The “less-is-more” approach is a definite must in Spring and Summer fashions.
So this week, I want you to take notice on the three types of shoes that are a staple for this trend: the boat shoe, the canvas slip-on shoe and the classic lace-up’s. I wanted to post way more than what you see in the layout, but you get a pretty good gist of everything that is pictured.
I hope my last few posts about this particular trend has been informative and enjoyable for you to read. You now have a guide to complete your nautical fashion awesomeness…
Have an fantastic week everyone!

Hop aboard and sail away with me on this week’s cruise, while we spring forward into one of Spring’s classic trends… nautical apparel. The maritime concept promotes a cool effortless style that focuses on relaxed fits that anybody can rock, no matter your sex or size. I kind of like to think of it as a conservative style, but without being too stuffy or pretentious. To mix it up a bit this week, I felt like focusing on a “his & her’s” type of layout. Display below is a great example of how two people can compliment each other with their fashion choices, without being too matchy-matchy, and all the while being on-trend. Nautical attire is so easily accessible to everyone regardless of how big or small your clothing budget is, it’s also a quick way to show the fashion snots you know your shit when it comes to dressing yourself without really having to do a lot. It basically boils down to a pair of straight/slim chinos, a striped shirt/tee and some loafers or boating shoe. Boom! You’re done! I had to also include one of this season’s must-have colors, orange, into the mix and honestly, it really works well with this particular theme with the navy and white and pink, etc. Check back next week for more on my favorite nautical gear, and I’ll most definitely have some options that are a bit more price-friendly.

I actually had a lot of fun at my Senior Prom; we created our own fun Kings & Queens like Best Hair, Best Smile, Most Athletic, Most Geek Chic, and other crazy categories. I happened to win two categories, Friendliest and Most Artistic King. Anyway, when I heard that the boys of Glee are doing Teen Vogue’s Prom Issue I was, well, gleeful.
The four boys featured are Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike aka Other Asian), Darren Criss (Blaine), Chord Overstreet (Sam), and Kevin McHale (Artie). While I had hoped that Chris Colfer (Kurt) would make the cut, I am really happy with the chosen ones. To be honest, I’m just happy that it’s not Lea Michele (after her CQ and Cosmopolitan “controversial” spread). These boys looks so dapper in their prom outfits you just wish you could bring one of them as your prom date :)
Did you know that Harry Shum, Jr. was born in Costa Rica and is fluent in Spanish and Chinese? Also, he is a dancer and choreographer for a dance web series The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers who have performed at Ellen DeGeneres’ Ellen’s Even Bigger Really Big Show, Glee Live! Tour, and last year’s Academy Awards! Love him even more now? Yeah, take a number.
Darren Criss joins the long list of ridiculously good looking half-Asian actor; he has a Filipino mother and an Irish father. Before Glee, his claim of fame was his portrayal of Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel, which he wrote most of the music. Oh yeah, he also released an EP called Human on iTunes. *sigh* Continue reading

While watching all the stars arrive at the 83rd Academy Awards show tonight, I really have to sift out some stand-out dresses. I felt many of the actresses went a little safe this year. I understand the Oscars isn’t the award show to take fashion risks, but still, the “glam” was definitely dialed down a notch this year, but I will say I was quite impressed by all the vibrant colors that were represented tonight on the red carpet.
The stand-out color of the evening was bright red! Continue reading

I am not a fashionable person. Nor am I particularly style-conscious. But my brawny friend and I sometimes quibble about the limited choices when it comes to clothing for our respective gender. He believes that women have a wider variety in clothing and accessories while men are restricted to shirts and trousers. He is undoubtedly straight. But, as he puts it, once in a while he just wants to put on a dress because it is pretty and fun. Alas, he doesn’t think he should considering the scrutiny that will be brought upon him. But he does don a handsome kilt here and there.
I, on the other hand, think men are blessed with the cool gear. It is quite a strenuous task for a woman like me, who prefers a more androgynous approach in her attire, to find a jacket that is not adorned by “princess-cut” shoulders or glitters. Buy a man’s jacket then, you might suggest. No, they mostly don’t come in my size. And don’t even get me started on shoes. That’s why there are sites like FiTTiD Tomboi.
I know that this little debate of ours seems puerile. However, I believe the issue of cross-dressing and androgyny demands more dialogue not just in queer culture but culture in general, particularly when androgyny has slowly seeped its way through mainstream culture.

I don’t know if it’s some kind of hormonal imbalance that causes two bitches who are too close within each other’s boundaries that make them want to claw at one another, but dueling cat-fights are taken to new heights when a nastier, bitchier, more vicious pair of opponents are involved: gay men with differences of opinion. Several weeks ago I posted an entry about how some gay men think they can spew fashion advice simply because they’re gay. Gay folks like Mr. William Sledd, the Youtube celebutard of the “Ask A Gay Man” fame is a prime example of a gay liar man attempting to regurgitate his fashion faux pas to the public, trying to capitalize on his “gay gene” as the foundation of legitimacy as a fashion expert when in fact he’s a complete fraud when it comes to knowing what jeans a man can wear. Obviously, I am talking about his “denim guide,” and how skinny jeans belong only on guys who are emo or in a band. I fit in neither category; if I were to listen to the advice of Mr. Sledd, my 30+ pairs of jeans would dwindle down to like… five pairs. Now I have no shame admitting I’m a denim whore, and being such the whore of denim that I am, take it from me when I say I know a thing or two about what jeans are acceptable for a guy to wear.

How short is too short? That is the question we must ask ourselves when considering how much leg we can reveal without being considered vulgar by a conservative public. After all, warmer weather is approaching and it pertinent to start thinking about fashions that implement style with cooling comfort. I remember shopping with one of my friends who had decided to wear some short shorts that day, of course I didn’t think much of it; it was fashionable. Continue reading

Orange: a color better suited on a piece of fruit than on someone who is a fruit. However, it looks like the fashion industry has dictated that this color will be a part of what’s “IN” for Spring 2011. Admittedly so, I normally would never agree with the fashion gods with this particular trend, and yet a couple weeks ago when I was browsing the shoe racks at a Nordrstom Rack, I came across a pair of cute Sperry-esque boating shoes in blood orange and thought, “Hmm… interesting,” but I just kept walking. It wasn’t until my friend tried on that exact pair later on that I thought, “Hmm… I think I kinda like it… Oh fuck… I really like it!”
