A King With No Crown

Lady Gaga’s new single ‘Judas’ is out and of course, I just have to spread the goodness. Despite all the symbolism on top of symbolism and so forth, it’s a great dance song. The beat comes at you so hard the only thing I can do is to start dancing… Like a robot. I can’t really describe to you in person what I look like when I dance, but it may make you want to back away for a couple minutes.

So, is GaGa a marketing genius again? Her single was supposed to drop on the 19th, but was ‘leaked’ or released four days prior forcing iTunes and other music downloading sites to rush order the song for purchase. Also Jesus was betrayed four days before his Easter by Judas. DUN DUN DUN.

There’s also a line-by-line Biblical breakdown of the song which you can read here. And an excerpt:

“I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs”
A reference to Luke 7:38, in which Mary of Bethany anoints Jesus’ feet with her tears and dries them with her hair. In John 11:2 (and 12:3), she anoints Jesus’ feet with perfume and then wipes them with her hair. In some Christian traditions, Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalene are the same person; in other traditions, they are distinct persons. Either way, though, Gaga’s take is slightly off: Hair is for wiping or drying feet, not for washing.

So how do you take it? I believe she and her Haus think of things down to the bone and execute them to the ‘T’. To me, this song is so typical GaGa, I can’t help but love it. The “Judas-Juda-a” part is so close to “Ra Ra Ra-ah-ah” from Bad Romance I can’t help but love it. I can’t wait to dance to this at a club and have everyone basically attack the dance floor.

  1. Only heard it once so far, but it definitely reminds me of Bad Romance. It’s gonna take a sec to grow on me, just like Born This Way.
