My boyfriend and I got reconnected to an old eighties song I had long forgotten last Monday night (Valentine’s Day). The song that unleashed it all (my memory) was Simple Mind’s “Don’t You (Forget about Me)”. I’ve never seen The Breakfast Club (1985) in its entirety, but I will remember that end sequence till I die and thank you Emma Stone for bringing it up in Easy A (2010) last night.
The late eighties had the best films moments ever. I entered puberty (among other things) and have fond memories of the following…
Yello’s “Oh Yeah” in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’s “If You Leave” in Pretty in Pink (1986)
Jefferson Starship’s “Nothing is Going to Stop Us Now” in Mannequin (1987)
Willy Deville‘s “Storybook Love” in Princess Bride (1987)
Carly Simon’s “Let the River Run” in Working Girl (1988)
Songs I wished were incorporated into 80s films include Boy Meets Girl’s “Waiting for a Star to Fall” and Baltimora’s “Tarzan Boy” (see below). I guess I’m a prodigy of the eighties.

It wasn’t a classic 80s movie, but Tarzan Boy did work its way into the live action Ninja Turtles soundtrack.
